Yes, a town without streets. Giethoorn is a small town located in the Netherlands with the unique distinction of having no asphalt streets. Ok, technically this town does have streets but the original settlement, before the becoming a part of Steenwijk, did not. Giethoorn was founded by fugitives from the Mediterranean region in around 1230 AD. True beauty from chaos.

OH BOY! I love people!…The language of Ayapaneco has been spoken in Mexico for centuries. Now, it’s last two fluent speakers refuse to speak it…at least to each other. Manuel Segovia (75) and Isidro Velasquez (69) have, according to neighbors, a long standing feud. No one is sure what’s the problem.

According to Daniel Suslak, a linguistic anthropologist from Indiana University involved in the production of an Ayapaneco dictionary, Mr. Segovia can be a little “prickly” while Mr. Velasquez is stoic.

Coming from New York I can really appreciate the availability of mass transit. It is truly amazing to be able to get around places, even in the suburbs, without the need for a car. In some countries though, mass transit is the ONLY means of transport and it gets (I can believe I’m going to say this…) abused. If you never thought this could be possible than you may want to watch the video below and see for yourselves.

0 While on the way back from restarting a server I drove into Manhattan (YES I drove) and noticed this gem of NYC architecture.

It's called The Doriton and is located on 171 West 71st Street & Broadway. It was built in Beaux-Art architectural style and dates back to 1902. It made landmark-status in 1974. New York Architecture had the following to say:

Completed in 1902 at a cost of $750,000, the building had separate servant and passenger elevators, filtered water, separate tenant storerooms and a provision for charging electric automobiles. 

The one-to four-bedroom apartments, four to a floor and renting for $100 to $300 a month, had long halls, unusual paneling and mirrored bathrooms. But there was marginal closet space and a skimpy bath-to-bedroom ratio, both typical of early apartments. [link]
